Program Overview

CBH Basketball League is a new, privately financed developmental basketball program for boys in 7th to 12th grade who are 6’3” or taller. The twist? Many of these players may have never played the game before. But they have what we can’t teach: height

We aim to provide an elite development experience built from the ground up: teaching fundamentals, basketball IQ, footwork, shooting, conditioning, and the intangibles that create real players out of raw athletes.

  • Tall youth are often pigeonholed into roles (usually centers or post players) without being taught how to master them.
  • They frequently lack fundamental skills such as ball-handling, shooting, and agility.
  • Many are underdeveloped technically and mentally by the time they reach high school or college scouting age.
  • Height makes them visible, but visibility without preparation leads to missed opportunities.
  • Emotional challenges, bullying, and lack of identity are common among tall boys, especially in middle school. These young athletes often find themselves singled out not only due to their size but also due to unrealistic expectations of dominance in sports or social awkwardness stemming from their physical differences. Many face isolation or teasing from peers and struggle with finding a sense of belonging. Without proper emotional support and guidance, this can lead to lowered self-esteem, performance anxiety, and even disengagement from athletics altogether. CBH addresses these issues by building a fostering environment where tall youth are not just accepted but celebrated for who they are, both on and off the court.
  • Many lack a male mentor or father figure to guide their athletic and personal development. For a significant number of these young athletes, the absence of a consistent male presence means missing out on the guidance that builds discipline, resilience, and accountability—traits that are crucial both on and off the court. In many cases, these boys are raised in single-parent households where their mothers or fathers do their best but may not have the tools or lived experiences to coach them through the challenges of male adolescence and athletic competition. CBH seeks to close that gap by providing strong, relatable mentors—coaches, former athletes, and community leaders—who not only train players but model what it means to be a responsible, respectful, and resilient young man. Through structured mentoring relationships, boys learn how to set goals, handle failure, deal with peer pressure, and develop self-respect. These life lessons, embedded in athletic training, are key to holistic development and long-term success.

Why a Height Requirement Matters:

  • While this requirement may seem controversial, it is purposeful. We are not excluding; we are focusing. Traditional basketball environments often overlook the unique developmental challenges that tall athletes face at an early age. Tall youth frequently struggle with motor coordination, balance, and agility as their bodies grow rapidly. Because of this, they are often unfairly compared to their smaller peers who are more physically mature at an earlier stage, leading to frustration, insecurity, and in some cases, the decision to quit sports altogether.
  • By concentrating exclusively on players 6’3″ and above, CBH creates a tailored experience where players can train among physical peers, ensuring that no one is made to feel out of place for their height or developmental stage. Our environment eliminates the pressure to “catch up” to smaller, faster players, replacing it with a supportive system designed specifically to help tall athletes thrive.
  • This league ensures a safe, specialized, and empowering environment where tall players can not only catch up but excel—both technically and emotionally. It gives them a space where their growth is not rushed or ridiculed, but supported with care and professional guidance. The height requirement allows CBH to align training, mentorship, and expectations with the athlete’s physiological reality, producing confident, multi-skilled players who are well-prepared for the next level.
  • This specificity not only levels the playing field—it elevates it. It allows tall athletes to embrace their uniqueness while gaining access to the development resources and emotional intelligence that they are too often denied.
  • Our goal is not elitism. It is equity through specialization.
